ALCTS Webinar: Altmetrics for Librarians and Researchers

Wednesday, November 12, 2014

Sessions begin at 11 am Pacific | 12 Mountain | 1 pm Central | 2 pm Eastern
and last about an hour.

This 45-minute panel discussion will feature an introduction and overview
of altmetrics and then present two use cases from a researcher and
librarian who have been using altmetric data to analyze impact at both the
individual and aggregate levels—one for her own research and the other for
researchers at her institution. We will conclude with an overview of some
free tools you can use to get started exploring altmetrics with your
patrons. We'll leave at least 15 minutes for Q&A.

Learning Outcomes

1.

Understanding of the altmetrics landscape (what they are, changes in the
industry that led to their emergence, how they're measured)
2.

Introduction to two potential use cases: An individual who is trying to
understand their impact and how a library is trying to understand its
institutions impact across departments
3.

Understanding of free altmetric.com offerings that librarians could
share with patrons
