Thank you for listening!

A few months ago I spent a whole day sorting out Bible. O.T. (and Bible
N.T.) entries on bibliographic records so everybody would be in accord with
RDA. Now I am doing it all over again because we loaded a vendor's records.
Whoever did the actual cataloging of these vendor records did not bother to
verify the correct form of entry for Bible. O.T. (and Bible N.T.) ...

Can we say split index?

I really am disgusted!

Thank you!

Do you have something similar to III's Automated Authorities in your ILS? I've just learned that if you add the incorrect forms (with matching indicators) into the 4XX field in the authority records, Automated Authorities will correct all the exact matches of the incorrect form overnight. So this would re-correct batchloads withy the same wrong forms. Of course, you'd have to be careful that you _always_ want to apply the change. The problem I next faced was from author authorities with no date qualifiers obtained from an Alexander Street set. If I set all John Smiths to redirect to Smith, John, 1900-2000, I might redirect the wrong guy.

It depends on your system and what you want it to do.

Many systems, when you save a record, can check against your authority file and flag for possible changes and have you approve the change.

For import, some systems will will check that a heading matches a 4XX tag and will then put the issue into a "resolve" file that you will have to make a decision as a professional to approve. This would help address what you exemplify as "false positive" changes.
