The ALCTS CaMMS Catalog Management Interest Group (CMIG) invites proposals for presentations at ALA's 2015 Midwinter Meeting in Chicago. The group will be meeting on Saturday, January 31st, from 1:00 until 2:30.
CMIG's charge is to discuss the various issues involved with cataloging, classification, and authority control after initial cataloging has been performed. With the implementation of RDA as the descriptive cataloging standard, libraries are beginning to take a hard look at their legacy bibliographic data currently in their local catalogs. They are asking what advantages can be obtained if this local data is hybridized, or enriched, by adding RDA elements to the legacy data. As work continues on the BIBFRAME project to replace MARC, there are advantages to working with consistent data for developing linked data systems to replace current ILS models.
The 2015 Midwinter CMIG meeting will provide a forum for libraries that are considering RDA enrichment projects or have completed RDA enrichment projects. CMIG is interested in presentation proposals that deal with the planning, implementation, review, and impact on cataloging workflow and public display of RDA enrichment projects either completed by vendor or in-house.
Presentations should be no more than 20 minutes in length, leaving appropriate time for questions and discussion.
