Autocat readers,

Does anyone have a source for the original (German) title of Principles of spiritual science, by Carl Unger?

I've searched high and low: WorldCat, Wikipedia, VIAF, DNB, Helveticat.

I've even searched Google Translate, which renders it as Grundlagen der Geisteswissenschaft, to use in the above sources. No such luck.

Perhaps Unger wrote it originally in English, though I doubt it. So I'm hoping someone will simply "know" the answer. A source will, however, be required for bibliographic purposes.

Thanks - Ian

Greetings,

The book that you are looking for is Unger's *Die Grundlehren der
Geisteswissenschaft auf Erkenntnistheoretischer Grundlage, *which
translates literally as "The basic teachings of spiritual science on an
epistemological basis". According to the bibliography appended to an
article-length biography of Ungar written by a certain Renatus Ziegler and
published in the *Jahrbuch für anthroposophische Kritik 2003*, the first
edition of the *Grundlehren* was published in three installments in 1910
and 1911, and the second edition appeared as a single volume in 1929. See:

First ed:
http://www.worldcat.org/title/grundlehren-der-geisteswissenschaft-auf-erkenntnistheoretischer-grundlage/oclc/233676612

Second ed:
http://www.worldcat.org/title/grundlehren-der-geisteswissenschaft-auf-erkenntnistheoretischer-grundlage-von-carl-unger/oclc/60469992

According to Ziegler, the English translation, published in London in 1930
and entitled *Principles of Spiritual Science*, was based on the second
(1929) edition of the *Grundlehren*. You can find Ziegler's article here:
http://www.reinesdenken.ch/fileadmin/user_upload/Literatur%20Allgemein/Ziegler_Biographie%20Carl%20Unger.pdf
; the relevant bibliographical information is on p. 150.

Hope this helps!

Tom

Greetings again,

Here is a small addendum to harmonize Donald Pisani's and my responses to
your query: according to Zeigler's bibliography, "Zum Studium der
Geisteswissenschaft" was the name of the series, published in Dornach, of
which the second (1929) edition of the *Grundlehren der Geisteswissenschaft
*was "Heft 3".

All best,

Tom
